Most overlanders understand the rule of “Leave No Trace”. That starts with making sure you pack out whatever you brought in. That being said, you might have some waste that you prefer not to transport out inside of your vehicle, That is where the Overland Gear Guy Spare Tire Trash Bag comes in! We were impressed by the quality and design of this bag, but we made a small mod we will cover later.
The History of Overland Gear Guy
It is always great to see a company making custom products in the US, and that is what drew us to Overland Gear Guy. They also have a great history.
From their website:
The owner of Overland Gear Guy spent 16 years in law enforcement, 4.5 years as a Firefighter / EMT, and has been a pro wildlife photographer since 2008. After being frustrated with the lack of customizable products available, he created a solution. He used his experience to create custom products for CERT, Police, Military, Photographers, Fire-Rescue, First Responders, Emergency Management, Incident Commanders, Emergency Communications, ARES, and EMS personnel. From safety vests and photography vests, armbands and radio chest packs, TheVestGuy.com has the capability to make it all.
Rob bought a trailer in 2017 and almost immediately began designing custom products, this time tailored to the trailer. The more Rob traveled, the more people he met on the road who’d asked if he could make something for their rig. It snowballed from there and Overland Gear Guy was born.

This versatility is a key feature, allowing you to use the bag in a variety of scenarios, whether you’re embarking on a cross-country road trip or just heading out for a weekend camping expedition.
Durable Construction
Constructed from heavy-duty material, the Spare Tite Trash Bag is built to withstand the harshest conditions. The quick-release buckles are particularly convenient, allowing for swift installation and adjustments on the go.
Two Functional Versions
The Spare Tite Trash Bag is available in two distinct versions to cater to different needs:
- Version 1: This model features PALS/MOLLE webbing on the outer surface, expanding your storage options. It includes an adjustable upper Velcro hook and loop closure, along with two lower pockets. The PALS/MOLLE webbing allows for additional attachments, making it highly customizable.
- Version 2: For those who prefer a more streamlined design, Version 2 comes with a zipper top flap and a rain flap, offering enhanced protection against the elements. It retains the two lower pockets from Version 1 but replaces the PALS/MOLLE webbing with a zipper closure for easy access and secure storage.
Both versions measure approximately 18 inches wide, 25 inches tall, and 6 inches deep, providing ample space for a variety of uses.
How We Customized Our Bag
We planned to store trash in our bag but did not want the bag to begin to smell and we also wanted to make it easy to empty. Enter a standard plastic kitchen garbage can that slipped right in. We now use a typical kitchen garbage bag inside the can. It makes emptying the trash easy and keeps the bag fresh. See pics of our mod below.
