Shinola Black Blizzard Watch Makes Great Overland Companion

Shinola Black Blizzard Watch Makes Great Overland Companion

By Patric Fransko

I recently set out to find a watch I could wear on my overlanding trips that were both functional and could be worn in a variety of settings without looking out of place. I didn’t want to use a smartwatch because, although they are very capable, they do not look as great when out and about (writer’s opinion). Enter the Shinola Black Blizzard Watch.

From the website, Inspired by the Dust Bowl of the 1930s and the homesteaders who weathered the storm, The Black Blizzard titanium wristwatch is an emblem of the American spirit, a willingness, and determination to overcome adversity. Features of The Black Blizzard include a sapphire crystal, Super-LumiNova printed dial details, sport 3 eye chrono, solid titanium case with brushed finish, turning top ring bezel and screw down crown. Each watch comes with a custom display box, titanium bracelet, black rubber strap and a coffee table book. The Black Blizzard is a salute to true American grit.”

I chose the watch as it came with a sturdy titanium case and bracelet to withstand some heavy daily use. The band could also we swapped for a rubber or leather unit to change the complete look and fit the situation. Check out the watch on the three different straps below.

I love the straightforward looks and the functionality of the 3 dial chronograph. I also like that the Shinola Black Blizzard Watch is built right here in the USA is Detroit, Michigan. From their website:

“In 2011, we arrived in Detroit with the idea to build a company focused on building high quality manufactured goods and manufacturing jobs—but no name. As the story goes, the discussion around this nom de plume got a touch heated, leading a team member to exclaim, “You don’t know sh*t from Shinola!” Shortly thereafter, we had a name known the world over, with roots in American manufacturing, and synonymous with quality—and Shinola Detroit was born.”
