onX Offroad and Toyota Team Up to Get More Drivers Off the Pavement — and to Keep America’s Trails Open
Six months of free access to onX’s full suite of outdoor apps now included with eligible new Toyota trucks and SUVs, backed by a nationwide trail-restoration effort
MISSOULA, Mont. — onX, the Montana-born digital navigation company behind onX Offroad, onX Hunt, onX Fish, onX Backcountry, and TroutRoutes, has announced an expanded partnership with Toyota that puts its entire lineup of outdoor apps directly into the hands — and dashboards — of Toyota’s off-road-capable vehicle owners. The offer, along with a joint public-lands initiative called the Trail Revival Project, is live now at onxmaps.com/toyota.
Under the new program, owners of eligible 2026-model-year-or-newer Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX and GX vehicles can claim six months of complimentary access to the top tier of all five onX apps. The offer runs through 2028 for qualifying U.S. customers who have not held a top-tier onX membership in the previous 12 months.
“Toyota drivers get after it, whether they’re chasing big game or powder days, and onX is the perfect tool to connect them to new adventures,” the companies said in outlining the rationale behind the partnership. The pairing brings together two brands whose customers already overlap heavily in the overlanding, off-roading, and backcountry-recreation communities — a natural fit given how many of onX Offroad’s most active users already drive Tacomas, 4Runners, and Land Cruisers on the country’s trail systems.
What’s Included
Eligible owners get six months of top-tier access to:
- onX Offroad — More than 650,000 miles of mapped and rated trails, a proprietary Dispersed Camping Layer for finding free and legal camping on U.S. Forest Service and BLM land, and turn-by-turn navigation.
- onX Hunt — Nationwide public and private land boundaries, ownership details, and tools like Deer Movement Forecast for scouting and in-field navigation.
- onX Fish — Lake identification and filtering by species, size, and abundance, plus near-real-time satellite imagery of conditions.
- onX Backcountry — Mode-specific tools for hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and ski touring, including 3D offline maps and the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES).
- TroutRoutes — Detailed stream and river maps covering thousands of miles of water, including lesser-known “blue lines,” with species data, access points, and regulations.
Most of the apps offer in-dash functionality through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, letting drivers follow routes and check points of interest without taking their eyes off the road. TroutRoutes supports Apple CarPlay only, and onX Backcountry is not available in-dash.
Redemption is straightforward: owners visit onxmaps.com/toyota, verify their vehicle identification number (VIN), and select which app to activate. Customers can return to redeem additional apps one at a time. A valid credit card is required to start the trial, though no charge is made during the six free months; membership auto-renews unless canceled before the renewal date, and any saved Waypoints and Routes remain tied to the account even if it reverts to a free tier.
The Trail Revival Project
Beyond the app offer, onX Offroad and Toyota are jointly funding the Trail Revival Project, a multi-year commitment to restoring and protecting off-road trail access on public land. The initiative pairs financial support with hands-on volunteer work at trail systems across the country.
In its first year, 2025, the Trail Revival Project reported meaningful results: more than 400 volunteers turned out across 13 states, restoring over 30 trails, reopening more than 49 miles of previously inaccessible routes, and clearing more than 80 downed trees from trail corridors.
Building on that momentum, the two companies say they are targeting 24 separate trail restoration projects across the country in 2026, continuing to combine onX’s mapping expertise and community of trail users with Toyota’s funding and organizational support. The project reflects a shared premise behind the partnership: that access to public land depends on active maintenance, and that the off-road community — including manufacturers, mapping platforms, and everyday drivers — has a role to play in keeping it open.
Meet the Trail Creators
The partnership also spotlights onX’s network of Trail Creators, a group of regional trail experts who document backroads and off-road routes through weekly video content and appear at community events such as Trail Revival Project workdays and Overland Expo. Several Toyota-driving creators — including Chloe Kuo, TRDJon, Delaney Michels, and Connor Scalbom — are featured as part of the campaign, sharing how they use onX’s apps to plan trips and showing off their rigs along the way.
Eligibility at a Glance
- Available to U.S. customers only; the offer does not extend to Canadian Toyota owners.
- Applies to 2026-model-year-or-newer Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX and GX vehicles.
- Runs now through 2028.
- Customers with an active or recent (within 12 months) top-tier onX membership are not eligible for the complimentary offer on that specific app, but may still redeem the offer on a different onX app they haven’t previously subscribed to.
Why It Matters for the Off-Road Community
For an audience already steeped in overlanding and off-road builds, the offer functions as a low-friction way to try onX’s full suite — mapping, hunting, fishing, and backcountry tools most owners might otherwise pay for individually — while driving the exact vehicles the apps are built to support. The Trail Revival Project component signals something further: a bet by both companies that sustained access to trails, not just better maps of them, is what keeps the off-road hobby viable long-term.
