Ford Bronco Desert Rising Kicks Off a New Factory Custom

2026 Ford Bronco Desert Rising Edition: Inside Ford Custom Garage’s New Horizon Series

Ford just gave the Bronco a color palette it’s never worn before, and it’s not subtle about it. The 2026 Bronco Desert Rising Edition is the debut release in Ford Custom Garage’s new Horizon Series, a lineup of factory-built, destination-inspired appearance packages that Ford plans to keep releasing on an annual cadence. If you’ve been waiting for Ford to lean into something other than desert tan and matte black for a special edition, this is that moment — whether you love it or not.

Where the Colors Actually Come From

The Desert Rising package isn’t just “pink Bronco” for the sake of standing out. Ford designer Bhavna Mistry has said the team pulled the palette from two specific places in Utah: the Great Salt Lake, which turns a vivid, almost neon hue as temperatures climb in early summer, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, which shifts through saturated pink and berry tones at sunrise and sunset. Rather than chase Baja racing graphics like the Bronco Stroppe Edition did a couple of years back, Mistry’s team looked at the quieter bookends of a desert run — the calm before and after — and built a color story around that instead of the dust and speed.

It’s a genuinely different approach for a Bronco special edition, and it shows. This isn’t a vehicle you’ll mistake for anything else in a trailhead parking lot.

What’s Actually in the Package

Strip away the marketing language and the Desert Rising package is a bundle of exterior and interior appearance pieces, all factory-designed and dealer-installed. Here’s what you’re getting:

  • Modular front bumper with a painted grille and BRONCO lettering
  • DIY grille finished in a two-tone pink-and-red painted surround
  • Painted trail sights on the front fenders, done in the same custom pink
  • White Method wheels with custom center caps, wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tires
  • Painted rear Bronco badge — the bucking-horse emblem on the tailgate, done to match
  • Optional bodyside graphics — pink and magenta geometric shapes running along the doors and rear quarter panel
  • Custom Katzkin leather seats in black and magenta, with BRONCO lettering embossed into the seatback

Notice what’s not on that list: nothing here touches the powertrain, the suspension, or the Bronco’s actual off-road hardware. This is styling and interior trim, not a capability upgrade. If you’re shopping this package expecting more ground clearance or a locking differential you didn’t already have, that’s not what it’s for — and Ford isn’t pretending otherwise. It’s an appearance package layered onto whatever Bronco you’re already building.

Fitment Is Tighter Than You’d Expect

Desert Rising isn’t a build-it-your-way option across the Bronco lineup. It’s locked to the 2026 model-year Outer Banks trim specifically, and it requires a body-color-painted hardtop plus the Sasquatch package as a prerequisite. Exterior color is limited to four options — Oxford White, Shadow Black, Avalanche Gray, and Ruby Red. If your Bronco doesn’t already check those boxes, or you were hoping to slap this onto a Badlands or Wildtrak build, you’re out of luck. Ford built this as a tightly controlled package, not an open-ended customization menu, and the narrow fitment window is worth knowing before you fall in love with the photos.

The Real Story Is the Warranty, Not the Paint

Here’s the part that actually matters for anyone who’s spent time wrenching on a rig or paying a shop to do it: Desert Rising is ordered and installed through Ford Custom Garage, which means a dealer or an ASE-certified technician handles the install before the vehicle reaches you, and the parts count as original equipment.

That’s the real differentiator. Anyone can buy pink wheel centers and vinyl graphics on the aftermarket — what you can’t easily buy is a factory customization job that doesn’t put your warranty at risk. For buyers who’ve been burned by aftermarket installs voiding coverage, or who just don’t want to deal with fitment issues on parts that weren’t designed together, that’s a legitimately different value proposition than the usual appearance-package pitch.

It comes at a price, though. Desert Rising adds $13,695 on top of an Outer Banks build — more than double what some of Ford’s other Custom Garage packages run. Production is capped at 1,000 units, each with a serialized badge, which pushes this closer to a genuine limited-run collector piece than a standard trim option. Orders opened on July 27, 2026.

Who This Is Actually For?

Desert Rising isn’t trying to win over the crowd that wants their Bronco to disappear into the landscape. It’s for the buyer who wants their rig to be unmistakably theirs, who’s fine paying a premium for a factory-backed customization job instead of piecing one together themselves, and who doesn’t mind — or actively wants — a color scheme nobody else at the trailhead is running. If that’s not you, that’s fine; Ford’s betting the Horizon Series will have more rigs down the road with different inspirations and, presumably, different palettes.

For everyone else, it’s worth watching simply because of what it represents: Ford treating factory-installed personalization as a real product category, with the warranty protection to back it up, rather than leaving that territory entirely to the aftermarket. Whether Desert Rising itself is your color story or not, the model behind it — designer-driven, dealer-installed, limited-run — is the more interesting development here. If the Horizon Series keeps this cadence and this level of design intent, it’s going to be worth checking in on the second release.
